In Maciene-sede, opportunities for households to access clean water in Maciene have been steadily improving in the last 5 years. Two private water providers have established two boreholes and charge 250,00 Meticais ($4,20) a month for the quantity of water households can carry to their homes. There are at least four water fetching points.

 

Still, some women and girls need to walk long distances and carry the water for their household needs on their heads.

 

NGUNI was the first provider of water for Maciene-sede. Most of households of the other communities (Ngangalene, Marramine and Cumbene) are still getting their water from ponds. Water from Mabumwine comes at the price of participating in the activities. At the moment, around 23 households get their clean water from Mabumwine.
